HRC Director to deliver keynote at Green Criminology conference

Thursday 8 May 2014

Human Rights Consortium Director/Senior Lecturer in Human Rights Dr Damien Short will be delivering a keynote address at the forthcoming ESRC-funded Green Criminology conference hosted at London South Bank University, taking place on the 7th and 8th July 2014.

The conference, which is the culmination of an ESRC-funded seminar series, is open to all with an interest in understanding and preventing environmental harm from a criminological perspective. Over the two days, various topics will be explored, including theories and concepts of green criminology; hazardous waste and pollution; and environmental law and regulation. In addition to Dr Short, keynote speakers will include the University of Tasmania’s Rob White, Nigel South of the University of Essex, and Avi Brisman from Eastern Kentucky University, among others.

Dr Damien Short said “I am delighted to be participating in this conference. My interest in environmental justice and addressing environmental harm through judicial means led to the development of the Ecocide Project and Extreme Energy Initiative at the Human Rights Consortium, and the human rights impacts of environmental degradation are worthy of further research. I am delighted to share my work with so many esteemed colleagues and to have the opportunity to debate and discuss with a wider audience”.
