Human Rights Research Students’ Conference

This Postgraduate Research Students’ conference is aimed at students working within the broad interdisciplinary field of human rights and social justice. The conference aims to stimulate research on contemporary human rights issues, problems, challenges and policies, and to facilitate the dissemination of such research.

We are particularly interested in inviting papers which go beyond disciplinary boundaries to embrace interdisciplinary perspectives on human rights themes.

We encourage submissions on the following themes, as well as submissions of a general nature:

  • Human Rights in a Post-Brexit United Kingdom
  • Human Rights in the Times of Austerity and Backlash
  • Isues Relating to International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law
  • Epistemological and Methodological Challenges in Cross-, Trans- and Inter-disciplinary Human Rights Research

We welcome papers from many (and multiple) disciplines including Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, International Relations, Law, Environmental Justice, Politics, Migration Studies, Philosophy, Economics, Peace and Conflict Studies, Development Studies, History and the study of social movements.

Please send abstracts of up to 350 words to HRC@sas.ac.uk by 15 June 2017.

Presenters will be asked to speak for 15-20 minutes on their research and work to date. We welcome participation from students at any stage of their postgraduate research studies, including Master’s students who are engaging in research (such as a research essay or dissertation) or contemplating undertaking a PhD.

The conference is co-convened by the Human Rights Consortium, University of London, the Glasgow Human Rights Network and the Human Rights Centre,
University of Essex, which will host the conference on their Colchester campus. Presenters will present their research in panels to be chaired by senior academics who will also serve as discussants.

Registration: £20.00 (standard), £15.00 (students, retired, unwaged)

This conference is co-organised by the Human Rights Consortium at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, Glasgow Human Rights Network and the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex.

All levels of study and areas of interest are welcome to attend.
